We are excited to be the Gold Sponsor for this year’s AIA MN (American Institute of Architects) Homes by Architects Tour. A net zero home we built, designed by SALA Architects and LiLu Interiors, will be featured on the tour. A net zero home is one that creates as much energy as it consumes. Features include: extensive solar paneling, geo-thermal heating, rain gardens, and three Tesla charging stations.
The tour features an outstanding array of residential design from Minnesota’s talented architectural community. It is an excellent opportunity to see how quality architecture can create relevant and beautiful living environments.
The event is a reminder of the significance of the AIA, and the value that architects bring to their clients and the community. The AIA was founded in the mid-19th century in New York City. The purpose of the organization was to “promote the artistic, scientific, and practical profession of its members; to facilitate their intercourse and good fellowship; to elevate the standing of the profession; and to combine the efforts of those engaged in the practice of Architecture for the general advancement of Art”. Prior to the establishment of the AIA, anyone could claim to be an architect, as there were no schools of architecture or architectural licensing laws in the United States. The Minnesota chapter was formed in 1892. Today, there are more than 300 chapters.
This year’s tour features 15 interesting and diverse homes around the Twin Cities from some of the most talented regional architects. The event will be held September 17th – September 18th. We hope you get the chance to get out and enjoy the tour!
